Abdominoplasty
(Tummy Tuck), Liposuction, and More – St. Louis and Surrounding Area Residents
Dr. Jeffrey Copeland offers a comprehensive array of body contouring options to help patients improve the shape and appearance of their figure. For those interested in body sculpting surgeries such as liposuction or abdominoplasty
(tummy tuck surgery),
our office in the St. Louis area can help such patients achieve their goals.
Abdominoplasty
People in relatively good shape who have unsuccessfully attempted to firm and tone the abdominal region through diet and exercise can now accomplish that goal in a two to five hour procedure known as abdominoplasty. Also known as a
‘tummy tuck,’
abdominoplasty is offered at local facilities in the St. Louis area as a means to significantly flatten the stomach and improve the aesthetic appearance of the abdominal region.
During the tummy tuck procedure, performed at our
St. Louis-area
facilities, the doctor removes excess fat and skin and tightens the stomach muscles. This is usually accomplished by making an incision from hipbone to hipbone. The skin is separated from the abdominal muscle, the muscles are tightened, the skin is pulled downward, and the extra skin is removed.
There are several possible surgical approaches to performing a tummy tuck. During your abdominoplasty consultation at our St. Louis-area office, Dr. Jeffrey Copeland will speak with you in depth about your goals and expectations and determine which approach will work best for you. Dr. Copeland will also cover the potential risks and benefits of tummy tuck surgery during this consultation.
To find out if abdominoplasty is right for you, schedule a consultation at our St. Peters cosmetic surgery practice today.

Power Assisted Liposuction
Power assisted liposuction (PAL) is a revolutionary liposuction technique offered at our office in the St. Louis area.
Using traditional liposuction techniques, the surgeon would manually break up fat cells with a special suctioning instrument in order to suction fat out of the body. This technique tended to damage surrounding tissue and create a significant amount of blood loss.
The PAL technique uses a suction tube that vibrates to loosen the fat cells – a much more gentle approach to the traditional method of liposuction. This vibrating effect provides enough force to break up the fat cells in the targeted areas without doing extensive damage to surrounding tissue. This gentler approach to liposuction produces less swelling and bruising and helps reduce the recovery time.
During a consultation for liposuction at our office in the St. Louis area, Dr. Jeffrey Copeland will discuss the surgical procedure in greater depth. He will also go over the various risks and benefits of liposuction to ensure you are well informed prior to undergoing surgery.

Laser Hair Reduction
Both men and women use laser hair reduction to remove unwanted hair and improve appearance. During the laser hair reduction procedure, a beam of light is directed at the hair follicle, essentially destroying the follicle to prevent future growth. Laser hair reduction is most effective on individuals with light skin and darker hair and not as effective on gray, blonde or red hair.
While no procedure can guarantee permanent hair removal, laser hair reduction has proven to be a much more effective and longer lasting solution than traditional hair reduction methods.

Spider Vein Injection Sclerotherapy
A common problem affecting a large portion of the population, spider veins can drive some people to avoid wearing shorts or any other fashion that would expose this bothersome problem. The veins are responsible for the flow of blood back to the heart. When weak vein valves allow some blood to seep back into the vein, spider veins are formed. They appear in red and bluish clusters that appear to be in the pattern of a spider’s web.
The cause of spider veins is unknown, but it is estimated that more than 60 percent of our population will suffer from this medical problem at some point in their lives. Because spider veins usually appear in highly visible areas on the body such as the thighs, calves, and ankles, many people come to our office seeking ways to hide them.
At Copeland Cosmetic Surgery, we offer sclerotherapy, a highly effective treatment for spider veins. During sclerotherapy, a solution is injected into the vein causing it to thicken and eventually close. Once the flow of blood in the vein is stopped, the vein turns to scar tissue and eventually fades. Sclerotherapy has roughly a 60 to 90 percent efficacy rate.

Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty, also known as labia reduction surgery or vaginal rejuvenation, is an increasingly popular procedure designed to reduce and reshape the labia minora, the skin covering the vaginal opening. Difficult childbirth, genetics, and age are common causes of this problem.
Women with large labia often experience sexual discomfort and labiaplasty can provide them with a renewed sense of confidence and improved self-image. In addition, large labia minora can interfere with activities such as cycling and exercising, and wearing tight-fitting fashions can be extremely uncomfortable.
During the labiaplasty procedure, Dr. Jeffrey Copeland removes tissue and reshapes the labia. The procedure usually lasts less than one hour and most patients are able to return to work within three to five days. Patients should abstain from sexual activity for three to six weeks following surgery. When fully healed, incision scars are barely noticeable.
