Genius™ Intelligent Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling

Effective, non-surgical skin rejuvenation techniques that require little to no downtime are gaining popularity. Many women and men concerned with key signs of skin and facial aging are now turning to radiofrequency (RF) microneedling treatments to achieve smoother, tighter, more radiant skin. At Copeland Cosmetic Surgery, we use the state-of-the-art Genius™ Intelligent RF system from Lutronic® to perform RF microneedling with outstanding results.

What is Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling?

Radiofrequency microneedling is a non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatment that perforates skin and warms tissue with controlled radiofrequency energy to stimulate skin healing and tightening, cell renewal, and new collagen/elastin production. These natural processes essentially transform the skin from the inside out to reduce signs of aging, sun damage, uneven tone/texture, acne, scarring, stretch marks, and more. At Copeland Cosmetic Surgery, radiofrequency microneedling with Genius RF is customized to provide targeted treatment for your unique skin concerns and goals. RF microneedling can also be combined with the application of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to further enhance the skin’s regenerative properties during healing for smoother, firmer, more youthful-looking skin. Typically, multiple RF microneedling treatments are recommended at specific intervals to deliver optimal rejuvenation and effect.

What Can RF Microneedling Treat?

Radiofrequency microneedling treatments with Genius RF can be performed on the face, neck, chest, or body to address a broad range of skin concerns, including:

Dr. Jeffrey Copeland custom-tailors the details of your treatment—from adjusting the depth of the microneedles to precisely controlling the delivery of RF energy—based on your skin type and personal skin challenges. By targeting only a fractional portion of the skin and leaving healthy surface cells unharmed, downtime following Genius RF treatment is typically minimal. As dermal remodeling takes place over a series of weeks, the prominence of wrinkles, discoloration, texture issues, and scars should diminish, and the overall quality of results gradually improve. Moderate to severe aesthetic skin concerns typically require more intensive treatments and repeated sessions to reach the desired goal.

Combining RF Microneedling with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

For patients who desire the greatest degree of skin rejuvenation from their Genius RF treatments, Dr. Copeland may recommend the application of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) immediately following the completion of microneedling treatment. Plasma and platelets are naturally occurring in the body and can be collected from a vial of your own blood. After the blood is drawn, it is placed in a centrifuge to separate the PRP from the rest of the sample so that it can be extracted. After microneedling has been performed, the purified PRP is applied to the skin and absorbed through the microchannels created by the needles. The vital growth factors in the PRP help support the regeneration of new tissue in the micro-injury zones, as well as assist in the creation of new collagen and elastin fibers as the healing process progresses. With the addition of PRP, patients can dramatically enhance the quality of their RF microneedling outcome. After a period of ten weeks, patients who combine PRP and RF microneedling typically remark that their presenting skin concerns are significantly improved and their revitalized skin is smoother, tighter, and firmer, as well as more radiant and youthful-looking.

Who Is a Candidate for RF Microneedling?

Genius RF microneedling is suitable for all skin types, which means that nearly anyone who wants healthier, more youthful-looking skin can potentially be a candidate for treatment. To find out if RF microneedling is right for you, a consultation with Dr. Copeland is necessary. During this appointment, he will evaluate your skin, discuss your goals, and recommend an effective treatment plan. Many of Dr. Copeland’s patients choose to combine RF microneedling into a larger overall facial rejuvenation plan that includes treatments like the application of PRP, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, dermal filler injections, and even plastic surgical procedures for a more comprehensive degree of improvement.

What Happens During RF Microneedling Treatment?

Before RF microneedling treatment begins, your skin will be numbed with a topical anesthetic cream to prevent discomfort. Once the skin is desensitized, the Genius RF microneedling handpiece is applied to the treatment area. The microneedles, which are insulated except at the tips, simultaneously perforate the skin, and RF energy is emitted through the pins though the subcutaneous (below the surface) tissue. This process is repeated until all of the skin in the targeted area has been treated with the microneedles. This may be done at multiple depths during one treatment.

Genius RF sessions typically take about 50 minutes, though they can be longer when larger areas of skin are being treated. For patients who desire additional enhancement, PRP and/or specialized serums can be applied to freshly treated skin for deep absorption into the tissue. PRP helps to support the skin renewal process and boosts production of healthy tissue, as well as amplifies the genesis of new collagen and elastin fibers.

What is Recovery after RF Microneedling Like?

Fractional RF microneedling with the Genius RF is both non-surgical and minimally invasive, which virtually eliminates downtime following the procedure. Though skin may seem sensitive and appear slightly flushed, the majority of patients are able to return to their normal activities immediately after a treatment session. It is important to keep your skin protected and out of direct sunlight. You should notice gradual improvements over the first two weeks, and as the tissue creates new collagen and elastin over a nine week span, more significant tightening and rejuvenation can be revealed. Maximum results usually require three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart; however, each treatment plan is customized to suit the individual.

How Much Does RF Microneedling Cost?

At Copeland Cosmetic Surgery, you can purchase a 3-pack of Genius RF sessions for $2,500—please note that single session and package prices increase when the neck and/or chest are included with the full face.
